POINTS TO REMEMBER More than one caregiver may be required. Always transfer the patient to their strongest side. Utilize proper body mechanics with a rocking and pulling motion instead of lifting when using the belt. Belts may not be suitable for high-weight or recent surgery patients. Ensure the belt is securely fastened and cannot be easily undone during transfer. Provide a layer of clothing between the patient's skin and the belt to prevent abrasion. Keep the patient as close as possible to the caregiver during transfer. Lower bed rails, remove chair arms and footrests, and clear any obstructions.
